Studio

About us

3e8 is a studio for digital art, interactive exhibits and productions with creative technologies, located in Vienna and Berlin. With a strong focus on user experience and emotional storytelling, we conceptualize, design and develop projects for exhibitions, events, public spaces and the internet. In addition to commissioned work with and for curators, agencies, institutes and the public sector, we also pursue our own ideas in audiovisual performances, data visualisations and political activism as a group of interdisciplinary designers and media artists.

Artists & Educators

Beyond our work with clients and our own artistic projects, we collaborate with universities and institutes to share knowledge through student engagement, workshops and tutorials. For the past few years, we have been teaching at the USTP St. Pölten and at The NODE Institute Berlin, offering beginner courses in vvvv as well as several intermediate workshops, and produce official tutorials for the YouTube channel of vvvv. Additionally, we are connected to the Tangible Music Lab at Kunstuni Linz, where three of us study Postdigital Lutherie, a master for designing, researching, and developing new musical interfaces.

Methods & Tools

For our projects, we develop custom pipelines, modules, and libraries that can be flexibly combined. They are built using the programming environment vvvv and web technologies. Over the past 18 months, internal R&D phases and our own artistic projects have resulted in a modular toolkit for real-time data visualization and playful interaction with complex information.

These tools help us design and deliver projects that make complex datasets easier to understand through intuitive and experiential formats. Additional solutions support dataset curation, installation control, and system configuration. Our work connects research-driven content with interactive media and is used in exhibitions, trade fairs, events, and public space installations.

Technologies

  • Gesture and object recognition for multitouch screens
