Festival der Zukunft 2026
At the beginning of July, we attended the Festival der Zukunft in Munich. For four days, the Museum Island at the Deutsches Museum became a meeting place for everyone who wants not only to discuss the future, but also to shape it. First as a specialist conference with over 100 speakers and artists, then as an open family festival with free admission: technology, science and creativity to touch, try out and get involved with. At the festival we presented our new installation Mobile Data Soil at the forum of the festival, on which we worked with GeodataService Munich and naiv studios.
The Festival der Zukunft, organised by the 1E9 community in collaboration with the Deutsches Museum, brings together research, start-ups, art and a curious community every year. From humanoid robots and 360-degree shows in the historic planetarium to discussions on AI, quantum computing and the question of how we actually want to live in the future.
Data Soil was originally created for the exhibition City in the Cloud – Data on the Ground at the Architektur Museum der TUM, Pinakothek der Moderne, curated by Damjan Kokalevski. In a darkened room, geodata layers of the city of Munich were projected using particles, allowing visitors to experience how spatial data shapes urban planning. Visitors were able to navigate freely through various datasets and interactive narratives centred on the Munich Digital Twin.
On Saturday, we also took to the Theatre Stage alongside Damjan Kokalevski and Korbinian Kringer from GeodatenService München. The discussion centred on Munich’s data infrastructure and digital future: what data actually underpins a city, who collects and maintains it – and how can it be communicated in such a way that it becomes accessible and negotiable for everyone?
